Mark Hill is a collage artist from LaGrange Georgia. Though his earlier works are themselves merely photographed arrangements of handmade collages in 2026 he has shifted to making true-to-form collage on canvas. In his latest series known as The Nag Champas the artist mixes Victorian era illustrations of cats with the colorful and exotic packaging of Satya Sai Baba brand Nag Champa incense. Whereas much of the artist’s scissor work previously outlined the cut images The Nag Champas presents solely squared or rectangular cuts. The playful and vibrant cat images are purposefully interrupted by the incense packaging making for an alluring and puzzling reflection on obscurity, whimsy, and commercialization.
